The creepy as all hell VID logo from Soviet Russia

Boooooo. Scared you, I guess.

Okay, now if that even made you flinch is all up to debate. It doesn't even bother me, me being a semi-functioning adult. But when I was a kid, things involving the VID (or ВИD) logo bothered the everloving shite out of my soul.

Tis a bunch of scary logos. How they scare you (or bore you) is up to you.

Now obviously not all scary logos are equal in the eye of the beholder. Usually, most people don't have a scary logo that bothers them after they enter their teens. But there are people on the internet who are just weird enough to talk about stuff like this on the internet...like yours truly ;)

The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to scare every kid in Russia and North America, accept no substitutes. (video link is here)

VID is a Russian TV production company that has produced game shows and such since 1987 for, well, Russia.

The logo itself is based off a mask of Guo Xiang, a Chinese Taoist philosopher. They had to digitally recreate and then modify the mask using primitive 90s technology, and it is somewhat impressive. Fun fact: the museum that had the mask tried to sue VID, hence why they modified the mask to begin with. Guo Xiang had no opinion on this matter, for he had been dead for over 1500+ years.

Original mask for comparison.

Honestly, the "Veed" logo as a whole is rather non-sequitur. First it starts off with a black line on a slightly green white background slowly emerging from the left while a loud jackhammer can be heard. Then a bouncing ball goes off the black line, into what can be referred to as the void. Then a flash occurs and you see the digitally recreated angry mask, with ВИD appearing below it in gold. Who thought of this? (Not to mention the dramatic fanfare, DA DUN DA DUN DAH! creepy synth noises)

Now let us talk about the mask itself. First let us note the tumor at the top of the head, which is actually a three legged toad. Also take note of the fact instead of having big ears, it has NO ears. Then notice how flat the nose looks, and the fact it looks like he has a moustache coming out from the sides. And just how the mask can't tell if it wants to be angry or bored out of its mind.

Overall I would give this logo a 6/10, very intriguing in its dramatics, but not enough sense or reason for why this logo is the way it is :P.

Of course, there couldn't just be one variation of this strange concept. There had to be multiple variants, including alternate faces, speech, claymation, making the mask as small as possible, etc. I will go through the more notable variations of the original logo, just so you don't have to go through too much walls of text.

L-Club variant

The logo plays as usual, BUT as the mask is done fading in, another face fades in on top of the mask, with a weird jiggling effect of the eyebrows. All I know about the face is that it belongs to the host of the show, and that it looks like he's shellshocked by something? Not sure how to put it, but I put the following picture below without context. ^_^
